FAQ

What is a chinese auction?

A Chinese auction is a combination of a raffle and an auction that is typically featured at charity events. The difference between a raffle and a Chinese auction is that in a raffle with multiple prizes, there is one "hat" from which names are drawn, but in a Chinese auction each prize has its own "hat". This allows ticket buyers to choose which prize to focus on, as opposed to having a first, second, third, etc. prize.

In a Chinese auction, bidders are not prospective buyers (as in the conventional English auction). Instead, they buy tickets, which are chances to win items.

Why are there similar prizes in different donation amounts?

Each organization decides it's own price points. Some will charge less and in return get more people to donate towards winning that item. They make up for it in the increase in tickets that are put towards that prize. Therefore, by giving extra money, you will increase your chance of winning.

If I win, how will I receive my prize?

Every event is different. Some will ship the prize to wherever you live. Sometimes ,they only ship it to their geographic area. Usually they can ship it to you for a small fee. Sometimes, they will give you the value in cash.Check in the details page for a prize to see the policies for each indivdual event.

How does the free gift work?

In the event that there is a choice of free gifts or free tickets, you will have to make your choice on the shopping cart page. The organization that is giving the free gift will send it to the shipping address designated by you during checkout.

How do Discount packages work?

Every time you click on a prize you will bring up the detail page for that product. In the sidebar it will list all discounts that are available for that event. At the top of the sidebar it will have the total that you have donated towards that event. It will also show the total amount that is eligible for discounts. For instance, many times 'split the pot' tickets are not eligible for discount packages.

Your discount will be automatically calculated on the cart page. Sometimes there is an option to prepay for adiscount package so the donor who will be attending the event can put in their tickets by the event and at the same time receive the discount. You do not need to add this item to your cart in order to receive the discount if you are selecting your tickets on our site as the discounts are automatically taken.

How do I choose my free tickets?

When you review your shopping cart you will be able to click on the link to choose your free tickets.

Is my donation tax deductible? How do I get a receipt?

You should ask your accountant whether your donations for prize tickets are tax deductible. When a receipt is necessary you will receive one from the sponsoring organization. In most cases, your credit card statement listing the payment to the tax deductible organization will be enough.
